About My Wish

I was born in Honduras. My maternal grandmother took care of me when my parents got divorced when I was born. I immigrated with my dad to the United States when I was 14 years old. I entered the foster care system, where I was mistreated before having a family that treated me well. With hard work and dedication, I graduated from City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University’s Criminal Justice program with honors in May 2018. Currently, I am getting my master’s in the Social Welfare field at UC Berkeley University. I am passionate about justice advocating for disadvantaged young people. As a low-income, first-generation immigrant college student, I know the needs of my community and wish to do my part to assist those in need.

I am choosing this wish because I have been so focusing on wanting to accomplish my goals that I have forgotten about my mental health. The last couple of months has been challenging, dealing with depression and anxiety. While my main goal is always to thrive, I feel that there are some moments when I feel discouraged and sad. I have used boxing to release my worries and anxieties before, which is very beneficial to me. Since I am a full-time student, I had to leave my job, and I can’t offer to pay for these boxing sessions. I would really love to have this as part of my self-care routine to help with my mental health. Also, I am dealing with different health issues, and one of my goals is to lose weight to support myself to maintain a more healthy living style.
